Are you familiar with Among Friends by Hal Ebbott, a debut novel about two long time male friends and what happens to them when one of their daughters accuses the other man of sexual molestation. It is a gorgeously written book, magnetized by a lot of interior narrative as well as short sentences. Except for the last page and a half of the book which exposed his ‘cleverness,’ it was a gem of a book. Imagine a gorgeous book undercut by the last unnecessary couple hundred words, how disappointing.
