Do you have a difficult time moving to a new book when the one you just finished was outstanding?
I do - I keep thinking about the characters, and I hope the new book measures up.

This is my experience as well. Great books linger often beyond the next read. Sometimes it’s difficult to leave characters as I wonder what’s next for them. And yet, I just can’t be without a new book. Sometimes hours pass between books, but that’s the longest time span usually. So many books, so little time.
Ohhh…me too.
I can’t be without a book either so I have to start a new one. The longest time between mine are only hours too.
Thanks for your comment.
Sometimes yes, and sometimes no. I just finished a really great book, and waited only a few hours to pick up a new one (that so far, is really good too!). But sometimes I need a couple days. Maybe it is partly due to the weather? (if it’s raining I am more apt to stay home and read)
If it’s a really good book that has left a deep impression on me, I may not be able to pick up another book for a day or two so keep myself occupied with magazines or a collection of poetry–anything without a plot and characters. And then there are what I consider throwaway books–perfectly fine reading but not profound–and once they end, I’m on to the next book.
I would agree with Evonne. Sometimes yes and other times no; but lately, more oftentimes no because I simply have too many books on my to-be-read list. I will say, however, after reading a book that is particularly disturbing, troubling, or intensely sad, I do take some time to further process the material before starting a new title.
Mostly, no. I love looking forward to the next book. I have lingered on a day or two occasionally, but usually set the great book aside for the future reread, or give to someone who I know would love it.
I have a hard time moving on from a really good book so I usually switch to watching a movie and then back to my next book. Sometime I just need a break.
I pick up the next book quickly. But after a really good book, it seems I’m more likely to give up on the next book. My standards, at least temporarily, have been raised.
@Carol_Dirks kinda like a rebound boyfriend, LOL.
But like you, I tend to move on right away but be dissatisfied with that next book.
Yes, there have been those treasured books that have invaded my soul.
The characters have been developed in a way that has drawn me in The setting is comforting and easily a place I would enjoy being a part of.
They are those books that one escapes to, feel good books, I guess, that I wish would never end.
Starting a new book is the hardest part in that situation. I always struggle to get sucked in and fear that the new book will not compare. Lately, I have had good luck and eventually I start to care about the characters.
I think it depends on how vested I am in the book. Sometime characters live on in my memory for a very long time. I try to have an open mind when starting a new book, especially if it is written by an author I am not familiar with.
Yes! It’s so hard to change my mindset to get interested in new people.
My experience as well with a well written story. Sometimes I have to sit with it for a day or two before moving on to the next book. There is always a next book!
Even when I finish a fantastic book, I immediately start the next. I want to read as many books as I can. I can relive the one I finished by writing a review on my blog or by including it in one of my lists.
I immediately start another one too, but still think about the last one.
I happen to be an excellent compartmentalizer, so I turn all my attention to the next book. But I understand where you’re coming from.
LOVE your answer. I wish I could compartmentalize.
No, no problem moving on to the next book but then again, I generally have multiple books going at the same time anyway. And of course, I will reflect on the amazing book but I am always ready for another read.
