Favorite quote from a book

I started this conversation with Lana and would love to hear other people’s favorite book quotes.

I’m not sure if I’d necessarily call this a favorite quote, but it’s one I keep coming back to. It’s from Richard Osman’s first Thursday Murder Club book. One of the main characters (Joyce) says, “You always know when it’s your first time, don’t you? But you rarely know when it’s your final time.” I’ve thought about that a lot lately, and I’ve used it to generate a greater appreciation and awareness of all the great people, things and activities that are a part of my life.

Kim, I keep a log of favorite quotes. Here’s one similar to yours:
“Firsts are easy to recognize. (…) What is much harder is to know the last of things. Those you do not recognize until time has passed.”
The Lost Notebook of Edouard Manet by Maureen Gibbon

Love those witty Octogenarians in the Thursday Murder Club. Such a wise observation.

@Leslie_R sounds like Osman should have credited Lessing!
