Edie spent her young adulthood caring for her mother. She’s happy she did so, but part of her feels she’s missed out. “There are some things that are better done when you’re young and foolhardy and unafraid of failure.” What do you make of this statement? Do you agree with it?

Perhaps when you are young you may be adventurous without fear of unknown results. In years ago it was felt that you had to be married when you were young or you might become a spinster. That has changed and many marry later or do not feel they need to be married to be fullfilled.

I agree with the statement. Life has not beaten a young person up yet. One needs to try different things, if it does not work out, learn from it and move on to the next adventure. So many options now for young people.

I disagree with this statement. I admire people who have adventures or try something new later in life. They have a wealth of knowledge that they can apply to the new situation.

Getting to a next adventure is what life often offers us. Time to get a life happens to so many of us that it is great to hear how someone else “got it done”.

I mostly agree, but I do also think adventure can happen at other times, depending upon circumstances. I think when you are young, if you are healthy, it is the time to try many things. There is time to try different jobs, go different places, and just take on the world. If we are fortunate, we have someone to fall back on, like Edie had her father - not that she needed to fall back on him in the story.
Starting my family changed my priorities. But of course, that was its own wonderful adventure! Then as my daughters became more independent, I regularly embarked on educational conferences all over the United States and Canada. Now as I am older, I have a few more health concerns so going to Florida (from the Midwest) with my sisters has become my annual adventure. I closed the book with the feeling that Edie will go on to make the best of each of the times of her life.
