Edie explores the many kinds of bread the bakery produces, later expanding their offerings to other types of baked treats. Do you ever bake your own bread? What’s your favorite type to make or eat? Do you consider yourself a baker, and if so, do you have a specialty?
I enjoy baking breads, especially yeast breads. Breads rise differently based upon the temperature of the room while the yeast is rising, as well as the temperature and moisture of the oven. The Rue ed Paris basement baking area must be a treasure of wonderful smells – yeast, sugar and any special additions like chocolate and almonds. I bake a wide variety of breads, typically sweet breads for my church volunteers, and table breads for home use. Breads use a simple set of ingredients but with these simple ingredients, a wide variety of tastes can be created.
I do a lot of baking, but I don’t have a specialty. Making bread is wonderful—the smells and the whole process seem magical to me.
I love a good bread–baquette, pumpernickle, rye, raisin–oh, where is the butter? But bake it? Well, I’ve done a no knead white bread that is okay but yeast and I just don’t work well together so I depend on others for my bread.
I do bake and make bread, mainly white, .focaccia etc. my baling bread is limited as I am my best customer and would rather eat bread, butter, and jam rather than anything else.
I can understand why Edie explored the many kinds of bread and helped the bakery expand offerings. There is something about baked goods that is very enticing! She was young and interested in learning about something she was so involved with. I baked bread when I was in high school and learning to bake. I also baked bread (and other goodies) when I was a young mother. Now I’m feeling inspired to try again! I love all kinds of fresh bakery bread.
I baked bread when my children were young and the again during coved. I baked brown bread. Oh so good.
I actually wondered if she wasn’t eating up the profits of the bakery. She seemed to always be sampling another of the goodies. I like to try different flours and techniques. Currently my favorite bread is a braided Swedish cardamon bread that is not too sweet. It is a perfect bread for dunking in your morning coffee while contemplating the birds and flowers in the back yard (and currently the rather raucous call of the neighbors illegal rooster),
I do bake breads. I make great sweet breads. My specialty is a cranberry, pecan and banana bread.
@Becky_Haase haha, that’s exactly what went through my mind.
I used to think I was a terrible baker, but then the pandemic hit, I was home, and I did a LOT of baking. But it never became a favorite activity for me - too fiddly.
I make bread (and always have) in a bread machine and think it’s magic. You toss in few staple ingredients, hit the button, and a few hours later you’ve got something delicious.
I love to bake banana bread which is NOT really bread with yeast. I sometimes make Irish soda bread. But you can’t talk me out of banana bread with lots of walnuts and plenty of butter spread
on the finished project. I laughed out loud when Edie said it must be her Irish background that had her adding butter to her bread. Guilty!
I love baking bread. I make yeast breads and sourdough. I prefer the taste of yeast breads but a lot of my family likes sourdough so I try to switch it up. It’s fun to do the different techniques for the different breads. I want to try and make baguettes this year but they are challenging in the baking so I have to plan ahead for those. My favorite bread to make is limpa bread, thanks to my Swedish heritage. I love the cardamom and orange flavoring.
