My library system has a book by mail service for 65 and over or disabled. I order books every week and they are delivered to my rural mailbox. The books are in a library bag and I return them by placing them in the return bag and putting them in my mailbox. The library pays the postage both ways. It is a great service.
@Bill_B that’s awesome! Do you mind telling us (generally) where you live? I’d love to know what area offers such great support for readers.
I cannot even begin to imagine what my life would be like without my local public library. Endless access to books in all formats, free services to all, 24/7 access to all online resources, Inter-Library Loan service, educational and downright fun programs, free movies to stream, storytimes for children, puzzles to put together while you’re there, welcoming, friendly and knowledgeable staff, Safe Place© for kids, obviously the list is long(er). Libraries are perhaps more important and essential than ever, because they actively protect a myriad of individual rights and freedoms.
I was a librarian for two years. I’ve also led our morning book discussion for 20 years and continue to do so. I’ve checked out cake pans, puzzles, and many books. I’ve utilized the computers, attended and participated in the programing and listening to authors. Our library is a true gift to our community!
I do use the Newton library for books and scheduled events. I love the periodical area - very cozy.
I use my library constantly. I live on a ranch in a remote area and qualify for our county library’s Library By Mail program, so my mailbox is a constant source of delight. I feel libraries offer us a window from which to view other worlds, to keep abreast of current trends in literature, and to research facts covering any subject that is within our field of interest. Long live libraries and librarians!
I use my library all the time. I meet an adult literacy student there weekly (ESL, or whatever it is currently called) for tutoring. I take out books, and also use Libby for obtaining ebooks. My library also has many things that can be borrowed, including entrance tickets for cultural and historic sites. If you live in NY State, you can also join the NYC library, and borrow ebooks from them. As an aside, there are also many public libraries now that make banned books available to people!
Love this!
