Do you think that Evelyn could have handled Lady Violet differently?

Lady Violet was a very strong individual. She was so used to being the “top dog.” Yet, Evelyn was strong also. She just had to learn how to not let Lady Violet intimidate her.

I thought she did a good job of handling Lady Violet. They both have strong wills and Evelyn was smart to stand up for herself.

I agree I was happy to see her stand up for herself with Lady Violet. So unlike her mother, wasn’t she???

I thought Evelyn handled her aunt perfectly. She had to stand up for herself with her aunt or she’d be completely intimidated by her.

I was glad Evelyn was not intimidated by her. Lady Violet was somewhat of a bully and was not use to people standing up to her. I also think that she was able to learn from Evelyn that you don’t have to be mean spirited to get what you want.

I think Evelyn handled Lady Violet very well.Lady Violet was used to getting her way and was a strong welled person. Evelyn handled her the best way she could.

Violet is the one place that Evelyn was not very strong. But she didnt want to push her because Violet knew her secrets. I don’t think going to Violet and trying to reason with her would have worked because Violet was spoiled. a bully used to getting her own way and unreasonable. Evelyn probably handled her the best way she could have

I agree, I think seeing how her mother suffered by trying to ingratiate herself with Lady Violet’s crowd helped Evelyn determine to stand up for herself against such people.

Oh gosh Lady Violet was mean. I think Evelyn did a good job of handling Lady Violet, but I think in an effort to protect her Mom, Evelyn was not very aggressive with her responses to Lady Violet. I feel if Evelyn’s Mom would not have been involved, Evelyn would have been much more aggressive towards Lady Violet. Evelyn would have had nothing to lose.

I agree with the above replies that Evelyn handled Lady Violet very well. She stood up to her, voiced her own opinion, all while realizing that Lady Violet had more money and social standing than she did. I was confused as to what “the beef” was between the two, and I thought the author didn’t explain that very well. I kept thinking I was missing something, maybe something that happened in an earlier novel.
