Do you think Lucy redeemed herself, despite the things she did? Did you sympathize with her?
Yes, Lucy absolutely did redeem herself! Mildred was very good at manipulating people and trapping them. Lucy’s circumstances were so poor, and she came from a small community, so she had little defenses against someone like Mildred.
I agree that Lucy did redeem herself. She was desperate and did not know what Mildred was doing. Once she realized what happened, she felt bad.
I, too, agree that Lucy redeemed herself. Such a sad situation for her to be in and Mildred took advantage of it.
I agree with the above comments. When people are in dire straights they do what they must to survive. Lucy saw that she was manipulated and changed course.
I was happy that Lucy had the opportunity and the courage to redeem herself. It made me appreciate how she was in such a difficult situation, but she did what she could to help her friend.
(Thank goodness, I was so disappointed in her prior to her redemption!)
My heart ached when Lucy betrayed Becca. I was so relieved that she returned to set things right. Lucy was a good person in an impossible situation - but she was a courageous woman. Lots of courageous women in this story, protecting the children!
I think Lucy acted from a place of desperation for her own child, especially after the tragic accident at her house. But running away with Evie to warn Becca was an act of love and bravery. It was redemptive and she deserves forgiveness.
I can understand why Lucy did what she did. She was desperate and had her own child to protect. But I’m not sure I have a lot of sympathy for her. I think she did attempt to redeem herself once she understood Mildred’s true intentions.
Yes, I think Lucy redeemed herself. She was in a desperate situation and Mildred Chambers took advantage of it. Lucy cared for her daughter the best way she could but fell short of providing a safe environment for her. Mrs. Chambers came forward to help out. I don’t think Lucy realized the full impact of her involvement with this evil character until she didn’t. When Lucy found out what Mrs. Chambers intended, Lucy “stepped up” to save Evie and bring her back to Becca.
Lucy did redeem herself and at a potential cost to her. She lived in a survival mode that influenced her decisions.
Absolutely! Lucy wanted out of Rodney and she knew she had put Becca and Evie at risk. That’s why she wanted the “I’m sorry message” to be delivered to Becca, but I’m not sure she realized that she had made a pack with such an evil person. In the end, she put her life and that of her own child on the line by taking Evie and running. In the end, she did the right thing
I agree totally. Lucy was simply a lost soul who, I think, ran out of options in her own mind. I can’t imagine the guilt and was so happy to see that she tried to make it right.
