Do you plan what book(s) you’ll read next, or are you more of a spur-of-the-moment reader? If you’re a planner, how far in advance do you stage your books?

I usually plan to read the next on my TBR list unless someone recommends or the book browse web page editor choice book catches my interest.

I’m lucky that I have a reading routine, so I know how long most books will take me and can plan accordingly. It doesn’t always work - sometimes I’ll hit a slower book, or something will come up - but generally I give myself a little wiggle-room just in case. The downside of my job here at BookBrowse is that I need to read most of my books by a deadline (reviews, book clubs, interviews) so I do have to schedule them to make sure I actually get to them. (And that’s not a complaint!) I usually plan about two months/20 books in advance.

I’m a bit of both. Sometimes I’m reading a book in prep of a BB discussion. Then I see a list or recommendation and start foraging the local library e-collection. That’s how I found Creation Lake, as it’s on Dublin’s short list. There are many titles awaiting.

I plan the books I’ll read next based on the due or meeting dates of any books I absolutely have to read (book club, BookBrowse 1000 Books… side read, library discussion group, my book journal challenges, and audiobooks available on Libby or Cloud). Sadly, this doesn’t leave much time to read books recommended to me or that pique my interest when I happen across them.

I don’t plan a lot and always have several books going. I get a lot of books from Libby through my library so when I get them they are moved to the top of the list. And a book club book is a given. And there’s always something I just want to read. Wish there were more hours and time to read.

I think that’s why I have so much trouble with using my local library, @Melinda_J. I feel like I get a lot of joy out of planning my reading, and that whole hold system messes me up, LOL. I’m trying harder these days, though. I figure if I can stop buying so many books I can just about afford health insurance, LOL.

Oh I buy books all the time! I’m 81 and can’t possibly read all the books I have or want to read! Maybe reading is my addiction!
