Do you have a favorite supporting character? If so, why do you think you were attracted to them?
Verity . She takes stock of her situation after talking to Ella. She decides her needs are not being met, and she takes the chance to be on her own . She believes she deserves better and she goes after it. I like her courage, determination and attitude.

The supporting characters were great so it’s hard to select one. I think I liked Verity because she helped Ella gain some perspective on her mother and was such a good friend to both Ella and Sally. We also saw her grow in wisdom and self-esteem as the book went on. I also loved her bringing the flowers when she visited!
I loved Hannah. She had her stall in the Market and sold used books. She was a dear friend to Sally.

I agree about the supporting characters all being great. But I think Hannah edged ahead a little for me also. I felt that her friendship was so very touching.
There were great supporting characters. I especially liked Verity. It showed true friendship.

I know he wasn’t a big character, but I liked Ella’s husband, Charlie. He was open to Ella going home right from the start. I inferred that he had been someone who encouraged Ella to contact her mother all along. He stayed home with their daughter( how many men do that?) for as long as it took. I think he realized there was something broken in his wife, that had to effect their relationship too. His encouragement made the whole thing possible!
