Do you believe in love at first sight? Why do you think Minnie was immediately drawn to Edith upon seeing her in the hallway at Culpepper House? Why do you think Hadley was compelled to sketch Kit moments after first seeing him?
Love at first sight, no. A deep interest in meeting the person, yes. As someone who sketches once in a great while, it is the subject that draws you in and you need to capture it. I believe Kit was a pleasure to look at as well as something you want to commit on paper to capture the moment.
Regarding Minnie, I think Edith was beautiful compared to those around her and perhaps was mesmerized by her actions and kindness.
I do not believe in love at first sight. I believe in both cases Edith was so beautiful and Kit so handsome that there was an attraction for both Minnie and Hadley. I think the love grew rather than love at first site.
I’ve certainly heard of love at first sight but haven’t known anyone who professed this phenomena. In both cased it’s likely that there was attraction at first sight, which is why Minnie stayed after witnessing the swan photo session.
For some reason, I found Minnie/Edith more believable than Kit/Hadley.
The romantic side of me, would love to believe in love at first sight. However the practical side knows love comes with connection and lots of patiences and time to learn about another. I do believe, that one can be physically attracted to another when meeting for the first time.
