Did you notice the hidden meanings in the characteristics of names (Ethan Lilian: "Fong-lived" & "Forever young," or Randall Wilkes as a nod to Stephen King antagonists Randall Flagg & Annie Wilkes)? Why do you suppose the author chose these names?

Did you notice the hidden meanings in the characteristics of names (e.g., Ethan Lilian: “Fong-lived” and “Forever young,” or Randall Wilkes as a nod to Stephen King antagonists Randall Flagg and Annie Wilkes)? Why do you suppose the author chose these names for his characters?

I have only read a few Stephen King books so I am unfamiliar with those names. But naming is important in any culture because a name bestows identity and when you say someone’s name you bestow a magic to them - don’t we all perk our ears when we hear our names? I think the author is bestowing a honor to King - whom he must admire - and confering a bit of magic to his book.

I didn’t recognize either hidden meanings and still don’t. Very clever of the author, though.

I on the same page with you.

As a long-time Stephen King fan, I did pick up on Randall Flagg reference and wondered about the author’s use of that name.

Me too Nan. Had no idea as I am unfamiliar with these authors.
