Did you enjoy the way Clare Leslie Hall teased out the details of the murder trial? Who did you initially suspect was on trial? Did it play out the way you thought it would?
Yes, I did enjoy the unfolding of the truth though a couple of times I wanted that part to be shorter. It did not play out as expected.
I did enjoy it even though I could not read fast enough to suit me! I had a couple of ideas of what might play out, but neither was right. This is the best book I have read this year.
At first I felt a bit confused with the format but quickly caught on and I really liked it. As others have said I also had a few ideas of how it would play out but the author caught me by surprise! Throughly enjoyed this read!
I wasn’t sure I liked it in the beginning, found it hard to get into the story but once I got use to the back and forth, it was okay.
The murder trial details enhanced the plot’s mystery. I didn’t mind not knowing immediately as each clue made me ponder more. My mind flipped between characters, but I didn’t consider the truth. Once I learned who, other details fell into place.
I was surprised at first but then realized that it could only play out the way it did to continue the lives of the characters she had written about so lovingly.
It was confusing. I went back and forth on several possibilities…who was dead who was on trial.
But I did like the way the author doled out the details.
I thought the structure of the book was extremely clever and effective, not only about the murder trial. I’m in awe of how she was able to give some detail about the many events and characters while withholding other important information. Each of the five parts centered on one of the characters, and each part switched between 1968 and Before. The structure was complex, but never confusing.
Overall, I liked the way the author revealed details, although I thought it moved a little slow at times. Another book moving back and forth in time! It seems like every author these days uses this technique.
I thought the way Clare Leslie Hall slowly unveiled the details of the murder trial was masterful. I was wrong a couple times but enjoy it when there are so many ah-ha moments along the way.
Clare Leslie Hall kept the story going by feeding us bits and pieces to put together for ourselves. Each revelation came as a surprise as these characters moved through their lives. Beautifully written.
I was not sure on how this would end up and so I found myself reading faster and faster almost skimming near the end. It was a surprise to me, LOL, and so then I went back and reread the last part to really catch the building of it all and also to see that it was indeed the ending that made sense.
I also found the structure to be inventive ,and it immediately pulled me in. I actually thought that Gabriel was on trial at first.
