Did anyone else find it strange that Danny was never shown back in time? Only Poppy and Vincent’s memories of events are shown.
Good question, but I hadn’t thought of that.
I agree with Elizabeth - I hadn’t thought of that and wish I had. Very interesting that Danny’s memories are kept from the reader.
Poppy’s were integral to the story as her movies and diary showed differences. I do wonder, though, why the author chose not to create Danny’s storyline.
I agree that’s a fascinating question, @Katherine_P! We’ve been trying to line up authors for Q&As, and if I can get Julie Clark to participate that would be a great question to ask her.
Good point. I hadn’t thought about that either, but it could have been fascinating. And how about hearing from Lydia too?
Yes, she was especially silent. I found her to be one of the least developed characters and thought that was a short-coming of the book. Did she love Vincent or didn’t she? Strange relationship and strange that she left them
If I am still a member I would enjoy such an opportunity.
I felt Danny’s memories weren’t included because then it wouldn’t be a mystery, those memories would have told us who the killer was. Of course, if those were the memories shared. I also wondered why Lydia left, it would have rounded out Vincent’s character to understand that relationship a bit better.
I agree. Danny’s memories would have given too much away. And I also wanted to know a lot more about Lydia and her motivations.
I think the author summed it up well when she added the part about Stewart being a predator. Some things just need to be left to the reader to ponder on. We know Danny was the oldest sibling. He was a staunch protector of Poppy. He had a violent tendency - probably to offset what was going on in his own life. He welded his older sibling powers over Vincent. He could hid his problems and was liked by all - very popular. He was formidable to the story, and appeared in bits and pieces, but was not revealed as to how much he mattered until the end of the story. Plus not knowing much more about Danny left open the suspicion of him being Poppy’s murderer.
I hadn’t really thought about it. Danny is the one who holds on to his secrets for the most part, so maybe that is why we only hear his part of the story through others.
