Catherine thinks to herself that while she might fall in love with Geoffrey, it could never be the same as it was with her former spouse, Nigel. “She was too old; he was too old. The older you got, the more distinct you got.” What’s your opinion about second romances, particularly those that occur later in life?

Love, in all its forms and at any age, is wonderful; though self-awareness, experience, and physical condition might limit and acutely affect the playing field later in life.

My husband and I were classmates from elementary through high school but never dated. Fifty years after graduation the big reunion was held, but neither of us attended. We did post a brief bio update in a booklet. He contacted me via email, which I thought was a scam; however, there were just enough facts that made me wonder. We connected from states far away and will have been married five years this coming September. Second marriages for both after each living thirty years unmarried. This second romance much later in life is wonderful! We feel blessed and very grateful.

@NanK, that’s got to be one of the sweetest stories I’ve ever heard. Thank you for sharing, it made my night.

I agree – great story, NanK. Good for you!!

I think it is wonderful that so many older people are falling in love again, even after a good marriage(s). Why not? Each marriage happens at a different stage in our lives, so each has its own advantages and disadvantages. But in the end, who doesn’t want a loving partner (that doesn’t chew on our shoes or have to been walked twice a day no matter the weather)??

I’m not really sure she fell in love as much as settled for Geoffrey. She enjoyed the sex and she was hurt that Nigel was remarrying and she made do with Geoffrey.

Bravo to you, NanK. That’s a happy ever story if I have ever heard one!

I think no two romances are the same

It’s up to the individual woman. The more financially independent an older woman is, the less she needs the marriage contract. A friendly romance could suit her well.

I’ve seen it both ways with friends.

I think that second romances aren’t for everyone. Some are destined to be with someone always and others are happy with one true love and then being independent for the rest of their lives. I would not want a second partner.
