Carol insists on having a dénouement, where she exposes the guilty party/parties. Why do you suppose this was so important to her?

I believe that there are several reasons for which a dénouement is extremely important to Carol. First off, many unjustly accuse her of being the perpetrator, so she claims the right to clear her own name. Secondly, such an act proves her capable of using her experience to contribute to society in a more acceptable way than homicidal cleansing. Lastly, I cannot help but think that she sees it as a means of showing everyone, especially the authorities, that she just might have an edge on them in the intelligence department. I am glad that she was given the opportunity to have one.

I agree with Andrea_B. Carol needed to show her “expertise” in solving the crimes and publicly exposing the guilty party/parties. It was her chance to come clean and absolve herself of any liability, contrary to what many others believed. I thought it was wonderful and so enjoyable to hear her break down the chain of events.

Andrea’s reasons are point on. Carol needed to redeem herself in many ways especially in the eyes of others. She’s proving to them and to herself that she is a strong person.

For Carol, the denouement wasn’t just about tying up loose ends — it was about reclaiming her narrative. She didn’t want to be remembered as a flat villain; she wanted people to recognize her depth, her intelligence, and the fuller story of who she believed herself to be,

Andrea said it all. Her obvious fascination with true crime stories demanded a tidy review of facts and clues and final conclusion.

Reminds me of other mysteries - Poirot for example - gathering everyone together to explain what happened.

Thanks for bringing that up Gwen. I hadn’t remember her fascination with true crime stories. It certainly gave her a tidy ending and to prove to herself and others that she was more than a former serial killer.

Exactly! She had to clarify who was really responsible for all the bad actions to clear herself!

I agree Carol was unjustly vilified. A denouement enabled her to clear her name

Carol deserved to have her moment in the spotlight. She figured everything out and she wanted to state openly the facts that would clear her.

I can’t say it any better than everyone else did. Carol needed her moment.
