I’ve found this to be a consistently reliable source for good popular literature. From this year’s finalists I’ve read all but Intemperance. I recommend all of these as good reads with a fair amount of variety.
Thanks, Anne! I love lists. I’ve read seven of them.
Thank you for sharing this list, Anne. Judging by the six I’ve read and enjoyed, plus two that are on my TBR, all are likely good recommendations for me.
That’s great @Vicki_F I hope you find more titles you enjoy.
Shortlist contenders for this years prize:
Endling by Maria Reva
The True True Story of Raja the Gullible and His Mother by Rabih Alameddine
Intemperance by Sonora Jha
So Far Gone by Jess Walter
Wild Dark Shore by Charlotte McConaughy
The winner announced tonight was: Endling by Maria Reva
Thanks again, Ann! Great list! I’m impressed with how on-top of these awards you are. I appreciate your sharing them.
Thanks @kim.kovacs. I think the award panels do a pretty good job of picking some of the best books out in the world. If I see a book appearing on multiple lists it is usually a good bet. This is a perfect example with Endling. It has now received multiple awards and I thoroughly enjoyed it and had a great irl book club discussion. Following the awards really helps build a tbr. Once into it there’s always the curiosity to see who wins. I watched the awards event on livestream and it was quite entertaining.
