As Jane gets ready for her anniversary dinner, she contemplates an Instagram influencer while choosing her lipstick (“Change your lipstick, change your life!”). What do you think of this trend? Is there an influencer you follow?
I find it a bit sad. I like to think I make up my own mind, but in reality, I am probably more influenced by what “they” (whoever “they” might be) than I like to admit.
I don’t think I’m influenced too much by others’ opinions, but boy, my husband sure is! We were going out the other night, and he put on a sweater he hadn’t worn in a while. “Is this still in fashion?” he asked me. “I don’t want people to think I’m old!” (…even though he’ll be 80 this year). He actually got online to figure out if he could still wear this style of sweater, haha. So yeah, it happens!
Well not really! My oldest son is living with me right now and sometimes I will ask him if I look alright when I am going somewhere. But he always says yes!
Kim.kovacs, And was the sweater “old?” according to the internet?
I think I am slightly influenced. I read newspapers and magazines online and follow certain popular tv shows, so I am open to being influenced. But I feel that I enjoy certain looks or products even if they are not popular.
If I think about it, I do have certain areas where I am influenced. I have a few friends that I follow their book recommendations and will often select a book based upon their advice so in that case I am greatly influenced.
I’m not against trying new things or exploring trends. But I don’t follow anyone or do something just because a certain person (“influencer”) suggests it. I’m less likely to follow trends as I get older. I feel comfortable with myself now and wear and do what feels right for me. I know what I like and I don’t need a celebrity to tell me what is best for me.
Heck, all of us here are influenced. I can’t remember the last time I just picked up a book because it looked interesting. Y’all are influencers, whether you mean to be or not! ![]()
And yes, Dee, the sweater wasn’t out of style, haha. But I’m really glad he checked or he would have been fretting about it all night.
I don’t follow any influencers and think that whole trend is ridiculous. It shows my age, I suppose, since I grew up at a time when there was no internet (thank heavens). I’m grateful for that because I see how much pressure it places on youth today. I thought it was bad (bullying, social pressure, etc.) in my day but it’s much worse today. Influencers, in my opinion, often create more pressure for their followers to have more, be more, be different, in order to be accepted. I guess there are positive influencers out there but overall it’s not something I would recommend following.
I don’t follow any influencers. Over the years I have found what styles of clothing I like as well as hairstyles and makeup. I don’t like following trends I don’t feel comfortable with.
I don’t follow influencers. I think most of my wardrobe is 10years old. I wear things until they wear out
I think this trend is silly. I am influenced by friends and family but not by anyone on social media.
I’m old enough now that I don’t get influenced by other people. I don’t follow any influencers. It was all different when I was much younger and wanted to fit in.
People give “influencers” too much power in their lives. Some celebrity or sports star says something and everyone is supposed to believe it. I don’t believe it! Too many people are just sheep and follow that stuff. I’m a Christian and my influencer is my faith.
Not really! I guess I am happy with the life I have. I pretty much accept myself as I am and the relationship I have with my husband and friends. I am thankful for every day I get up and see the sunrise.
I don’t follow any influencers and I don’t believe in this saying. I believe if you feel like you need a change in your life, first figure out what it is you want to change and why - and what do you think that change will bring about. Then just go ahead and do it.
I nevere wait for 1st of the month, or Monday, for example to start a change. If I feel like I need to change something about myself or my life, I just do it the moment I mull it over and come up with a plan.
