After Pia’s visit in Chapter 35, Olivia decides to take action on her own. What did you think of her decision here? What might you have done in her place?
Olivia liked Scott so when she decided to go after him to prevent any mayhem - after trying to reach Merritt - I think I would have done the same. Scott really had all the onus of incompetence on him when he was really being misjudged too much.
I thought Olivia was putting herself in too much danger. I may have called the authorities.
I didn’t agree with Olivia’s decision to take action on her own. It seemed way too dangerous to me. I agreed with her decision to try calling Merritt first. But with no answer, I would have called the authorities next. It made me angry that Merritt did not respond to Olivia. Merritt did end up saving Olivia, but I thought she should have responded to Olivia also.
I thought it was a stupid and dangerous decision to go off on her own. I do understand why she did it because she wanted to ‘save’ people and had empathy for Pia.
I felt like Olivia’s decision to take action on her own was careless and irresponsible. I would have physically gone to Merritt and woken her up. I was thinking the reason Merritt hadn’t answered was because Scott was with Merritt, holding her hostage or something of the sort.
I thought she was very brave, but not very thoughtful about it. Granted, she didn’t have a lot of time to think before she acted, but she put herself in a lot of danger. I would probably have called the police but but gone after him. I would be too scared.
I must say I was frightened for her. A better response would have been to call the police. But being the crazy just okay assistant I could understand why she did what she did!
I’m more cautious by nature. I felt Olivia was impulsive and should have called the police and alerted them to the situation. I was scared for her!
She took quite a chance. This scaredy cat would have called the police when she couldn’t get a hold of Merritt. I would not have gone alone
I agreed with her first action being to reach out to Merritt, however when no one could reach Merritt, I would’ve gone to her room to ensure she was ok. I was sure that’s where Scott was - again because I was suspecting him almost from the beginning, I thought he felt Merritt closing in on him and he went to get rid of her. So I would’ve at least gone to check on her before going after Scott myself.
Her decision was rash and dangerous, but in her defense, she did try to reach Merritt first. As others have said, calling the police would have been the wiser course of action. I can see why her big heart, impulsivity, and desire to impress her boss led her to go out on her own, but the decision wasn’t a wise one. I think I would have called the police because I would not have been brave enough to go after a distraught man with a gun by myself.
I thought her decisions were reckless, but I can put reality aside a little bit for the sake of the story line. In that situation I would have called the police.
