You might say this story is ultimately about forgiveness. Are you able to find all the major characters redeemable in some way, or are there any you cannot forgive?

I can forgive Joe for his years of staying away from his family. But there is no way that I can forgive Norma’s parents or her aunt. They knew that Ruthie/Norma had been abducted and did nothing about it.

I was unable to feel any compassion/forgiveness for The family that stole her. They deprived her of her family and culture. In addition her home environment was abusive. Her “mother” was totally self absorbed. She did have the opportunity to go to college and that may not have happened if she had stayed with her biological family. But they were a loving/connected family and she was deprived of growing up in that loving home.

Well said Charlene! Your point about being deprived of growing up in a loving/connected family made me wonder Norma’s marriage would have survived and thrived. My hunch is yes.
