When did you figure out the relationship between the two storylines, and how did it make you feel?

I thought it was a credit to the author in using 2 different narrative voices to tell the story. I enjoyed the alternating perspectives that drove the plot and story line forward

I knew from the beginning that the two storylines were connected. Sometimes, I was afraid that they will disconnect towards the end, but Amanda Peters created a nice denouement.

It was evident early in the story but it was more about how the characters’ lives were affected that made the story.

It was early on in the book that I figured out the connection. Norma’s dreams were a clue. Dreams are very important in Indian culture. They provide meaning to an individuals identity and give meaning to their existence. The answers “her parents” provided when She talked to them about her dreams were shallow. Her father would actually become nervous and pick at his cuticles. Her mother would say things to discredit her dreams.

I figured out the relationship very early in the book. I think that the author set it up that way so that the readers could see that even though Ruthie was now an only child, what she had lost was more important than having nice things. She had lost the love of her mother and her family and it was replaced by a mentally unstable mother who wanted to control her instead of love her unconditionally.

I realized it pretty early also when Ruthie talked about her dreams. I wish that she could have found her family earlier and gotten a chance to know them.
