What other more recently written mysteries do you recommend that have a similar theme or flavor? Is there another modern author you can think of whose work is comparable?

This book reminded me a bit of Anthony Horowitz’s books and the Phryne Fisher novels by Greenwood or even the Thursday Murder Club series by Osman. You also could say it’s a bit like the Ernest Cunningham series by Stevenson since he constantly mentions the rules of the golden age of mystery.

Naturally, Richard Osman’s Thursday Murder Club comes to mind but I think the Marlow Murder Club series by Robert Thorogood might be a better fit. For anyone who enjoyed Cloak & Dagger Club, I would suggest they look at the series featuring Agatha Christie’s housekeeper, Phyllida Bright, by Colleen Cambridge since it’s set in the same time period and various mystery authors pop up now and then.

I also thought of the Thursday Murder Club and the Marlow Murder Club series. I appreciate the thoughts from others and look forward to reading some mysteries that have been mentioned.

I’m with the crowd here: both Anthony Horowitz and Richard Osman came to mind. I don’t read many mysteries, but I enjoy those – as I did this book.

I agree with the others. All of those mentioned are very good examples.

Further afield geographically, Tarquin Hall’s Vish Puri stories are set in near modern day Delhi, India and I believe strive to follow many of the “rules” of the golden age detectives. There are no deus ex machina endings, there is a kind of sidekick police inspector who is not as good as Vish Puri but serves as a foil. (personally I though Frank was the foil who was not supposed to be as good as Lucy). I enjoy these because they also bring in some aspect of current Indian political or other life aspect. I think they are still “cozy” even though there is murder and other crimes just because he is such an Hercule Poirot type character with lots of idiosyncracies.

The first series that came to mind was The Thursday Murder Club, like others mentioned. I appreciate all of the recommendations for other series!

I would recommend Richard Osman’s series about the Thursday Murder Club. Also fun reads that keep you guessing till the end.
