What is your book club reading in 2025?

LOVED Lenny Marks Gets Away With Murder and The Nature of Fragile Things.

Hang the Moon was good, but nothing outstanding for me.

Our group read Remarkably Bright Creatures this past cycle. My suggestion. Everyone but one of us loved it. Book club goal is NOT for everyone to love a particular book, but it is nice when it happens.

Pulling numbers from a hat could really backfire with our group. Not all of us suggest winners. It would certainly simplify the selection process.

We had hurt feelings when we first started to “vote” on books and that person’s book wasn’t chosen. Soooo…we decided to include ALL suggestions and just pull numbers out of a hat so all books would eventually be chosen. We still have some from a few years ago, but a number “chooses” and not people so it works out. And…yes…some books are NOT preferred, but we figure everyone suffers through one book or more. We have to be fair - if they read one they don’t like, we have to do the same.

@Audrey_Glick isn’t it nice to find a sweet, feel-good book every now & then - something breezy you don’t have to work too hard at? I think The Love Elixir of Augusta Stern is going to strike many people that way, too. It’s not earth-shattering but it’s a great escape for a few hours.

@Elizabeth how interesting! I’ve never heard of a book group choosing books that way, but I can see how it could be beneficial.

It seems to work, and everyone seems happy to dig in the stack of numbers and see what comes out.
