What did you think of the research Olivia did on Merritt before interviewing for the position of assistant?
It’s always good to know something about a potential employer when going for an interview.
Good to know who you are working for but borderline stalker because she was looking in her windows and throughout the book looking over Merritt’s shoulder to see what was on her phone.
I agree with @Mary_K - Olivia’s behavior was obsessive and creepy.
Definitely over the top and excessive. That said, the more you know about someone and a given position, the more likely that you will have something more to talk about in an interview setting. I did love how, even with Olivia’s pre-interview research, she still found herself feeling quite unsure of her footing throughout the interview. It helped define Merritt’s approach to investigating as well, as we get to see that she was obviously quite prepared for the interview and knew the type of person she was looking to hire. Olivia so obviously wants this job, but even with what she knows going in, she really does not know enough about exactly what the role is or how she “fits in”. I’ve interviewed hundreds of candidates in my current and past careers and find many of those interview conversations to be quite unexpected. Some quite good and others, so incredibly bad!
I’d love to be as skilled at finding information online!
I think some research was good. But I do think that Olivia’s research was over the top and intrusive.
I thought it was smart of her, and honestly something I probably would have done myself. She was preparing to meet someone with a big reputation and didn’t want to walk in completely blind. To me, it also showed that she was looking for something more than just a job. She seemed drawn to the possibility of stepping into something larger, more interesting, and maybe even a little life-changing
I thought it was great. She wanted to be prepared for her interview and she had the skills because she was a fact checker. She probably should’t have shared all of the information that she gathered.
Maybe people do that now with all the technology we have but I think she went a bit beyond!
I think it was very smart of Olivia to research Merritt. If you learn the basics about someone, which is easy to do with social media, you can move on to more in depth information which will give you more perspective as to her facial expressions, body talk.
