What are you reading this week? And what did you think of last week’s books? (4/23/2026)

I just started Artiface by Sharon Cameron for our local yoga studio book discussion group. Some of the group (before they even started to read the book!) grumbled about yet another WWII book. I’m enjoying it and also sent a note out to the group that if they are intrigued by the art forgery angle of the book, they could consider reading The Art Forger by B. A. Shapiro. It is set post WWII (after the art heist at the Isabella Steward Gardner Museum in Boston in 1990) and picks up several details of forger Han Hans van Meegeren, who is featured in Artiface.

I just finished Ms Mebel Gors back to the Chopping Block and am about one-third of the way through The Little Red Chairs.. The latter has already lead me down several rabbit holes of research. I am also listening to The Covenant of Water - a beautifully written book so far. I can’t believe it has taken me this long to pick it up.

Diane,
I loved Mona’s. An enriching book critiquing many of the old and new masters.

Last Week, I finished “Time of the Child.” It took a while but all of the messages started to make sense toward the end. I completed my first five-star read in a while with “Wild Dark Shore” this morning. There is so much to love if you like “slow butns.” Just started “Broken Country” and I will let you know when I have an opinion.

I am reading Homeseeking by Karissa Chen. It tells the story of two people who run into each other after 60 years.

I loved “Migrations”,it was my first experience with this author. I also however, was blown away by the “Wild DarkShore”. I am currently reading her books on wolves. I couldn’t pick my favorite, each is terrific in its own way. She is probably my favorite author at this time. Can we get her to come on board for a in depth discussion, Kim???

Certainly a difference in these two books. Wild Dark Shores is truly a 5 star read, Broken Country not so, however.more a like a afternoon serial experience.

I agree @Carol_N I think Charlotte McConaughy is a very special writer. She can concoct a great story and her writing is beautiful. She would be very high on my get-it-as-soon-as-I-can authors list.

WOLF HOUR by Jo Nesbo.

Norwegian Noir set in Minneapolis,MN.

Loving it!

Just finished The Radium Girls, by Kate Moore. Wow! Incredible time in history. The story is packed with factual content related to the personal lives of the women who were exposed to radium poisoning during work as clock face painters. It describes their work, families, conditions, illnesses and subsequent legal challenges. Great read for all!
