I am reading The Violin Maker’s Secret. A little magical realism is good these days.
I finished The Stolen Life of Colette Marceau by Kristin Hamel and The Last Assignment by Erika Robuck.

Good idea. I learned to skip the first word or two of the next section, which helped. Initially, the one sentence string was a bit weary until I developed my own method. As I mentioned earlier, I was most interested in the setting and details given my family’s history in WWI. The plot was secondary.
Holly - finished last night! It was a 4 star for me, a bit soap opera-ish but I loved all the characters!
I just started A Far Flung Life by M L Stedman and so far I am loving it! This author wrote The Light Between Oceans which is one of my all time favorites and I have been waiting 10 + years for her next book!
Thank you for letting me know! I will go into it with that understanding. ![]()
‘Guests of the Ayatollah’, when I think is an applicable topic right now.
Has anyone read Project Hail Mary.? If so would it be good for a book club ?
Hi @Antoinette_B! Yes, I’ve read it. I definitely think it would make a great book club discussion.
I finished readng On Freedom by Timothy Synder. Very interesting thoughts of what it means to be free and do we want to be free “from” or free “to”
This past week I read two of the books that will be discussed this coming week.
The Greek House by Dinah Jefferies. The book was an amazing adventure pre WWII on the Greek Island of Corfu. It is a romantic novel full of family secrets and grief. It was an entertaining read, however I was able to predict the twist early in the book.
That.was my first book by the author so for comparison I read one of her other books - The Tea Planter’s Wife. It followed a similar plot of family secrets on the island of Ceylon in the early 1920’s.
Both books were enjoyable easy reads.
The other book for The 1000 Books to read book club was Liar’s Poker by Michael Lewis. I admit at first this was a challenging book because the economics were difficult to understand. I’m glad I continued reading because I found it easier to understand at the end. Basically the book did not have much of a plot but was a series of anecdotes of the Salomon Brothers.
First last weeks books and I haven’t read any of them. I just finished in audio Skylark by Paula McLain. I had a hard time with this book. Think I should have read the actual bòok. I just started I Won’t be Long by Elizabeth Hardinger for discussion here and liking it so far. And I started Nash Falls by David Baldacci and it’s a good one. I also finished Under Two Flags by Janis Robinson Daly and it was great.
I finished Gone Before Goodbye by Harlen Coben and Reese Witherspoon this week. I was disappointed in it, it felt disjointed in some parts. I am currently reading The Lion Women of Tehran for book club and really enjoying it. The Stationary Shop was one of my favorite novels last year.
Loved this book! I would have loved to have read it in a book club setting. There were so many parts that I wanted to talk to somebody about.
I’m in the midst of The Greek House, and yes, the plot seems predictable, but I’ll see! The author’s description of the setting is visually pleasing.
Liar’s Poker didn’t grab me. I had to stop, just couldn’t continue. But to the right reader with a econ and investment business background, the stories would be interesting.
I’m also reading Buckeye. Many BB readers spoke highly of the book. I didn’t pre-read reviews or summaries so am a bit surprised with the wife’s activities. I like the story, though.
This morning I finished my first audiobook, Kin by Tayari Jones, which is a heartwarming story of two motherless girls who endure a lifelong friendship through the challenges they face.
I enjoyed hearing the story these past few days while weeding my garden. Definitely a 5 star read.
Let us know what you think. It sounds like an interesting book.
Hi @Antoinette_B My book club discussed Project Hail Mary and we had a great time with it. I can’t recall specifics but I think there is plenty to talk about.
Y’all I’m so sorry but several of you have commented on my posts without stating the book title. I need some idea of what is being asked because I have multiple posts above in this thread. Come back at me with some more specific info and I’ll be happy to give my best response.
I try to put a book title in each post just so there is no confusion.
I come close to stopping also and I’m a little worried about responding to the discussion.![]()
Likely what we’ve already shared here is the essence of our reaction! ![]()
