The magic of untamed hearts - Raquel Vasquez Gilliland
Welcome, @Kelsie_F!
I really enjoyed Atmosphere. I’m glad you decided to give it a whirl & are finding it a worthwhile read.
@Marijana_Bankovic what did you think of Reformatory? Tananarive Due has long been an author I’ve felt I need to check out, but I haven’t read any of her works yet. Have you read anything else by her?
OK, with all the chatter above, I had to look up Forever Amber. Here’s part of the description:
“Frequently compared to Gone with the Wind, Forever Amber is the other great historical romance, outselling every other American novel of the 1940s—despite being banned in Boston for its sheer sexiness. A book to read and reread, this edition brings back to print an unforgettable romance and a timeless masterpiece.”
It was published in 1944! I can’t believe I’ve never heard of it. I feel like my education is sadly lacking. Thanks for the recommendation, although it might be a while before I get to it. You’re right, it’s long - almost 1000 pages! Maybe over the holidays…
I’m reading it as part of the BOTM Book club this week. It’s very heavy but the storyline is good and interesting. This is the first book of hers that I’m reading. Her style is good, easy to read and keep track of characters and the multiple plots. But again, the topic is very heavy and should come with a lot of trigger warnings, especially in front of some chapters. Some are fine but others are just very dark.
Thanks for the recommendation, @Micki_S! I’m a backpacker, too (although not as much in the last two years or so). I’ll have to look at Heartwood. Of the books on your TBR, the only one I haven’t read is Audition (and I hope to get to it soon!). I don’t think you can go wrong with any of the ones you’ve listed, they’re all great. I especially enjoyed The Emperor of Gladness. It was one of my favorites this year and I was disappointed it wasn’t nominated for any of the big awards.
Welcome to BB. Your to read list will grow! I ignored the mixed reviews for Atmosphere. It’s good.
Anthony, can you name a couple of the top 20 that you would classify as page turners? Thanks.
