What are you reading this week? And what did you think of last week’s books? (10/09/2025)

@Roberta_Winchester that’s one of those books I was supposed to read in high school that I don’t think I ever even cracked. I’ll need to put that on my list, now that I’m older & wiser!

Our book club read and 100% enjoyed the multiple story lines of Migrations a couple seasons ago.

The Forgetting by Sarah Perry concluded the way I thought it would, but I still enjoyed the details. It’s the kind of read that moves along and is easy to put down and pick right up again.

On the other hand, this week I’m still working my way through Angel Down by Daniel Kraus. The author is so talented, it’s almost unbearable to read.

(Kim, I’m wondering if I can get these emails earlier, as it is regarding week of 10/09 and I received it on 10/14.)

I think I’ll delve deeper into Steinbeck; probe bio material, too. He was an interesting thinker and writer. He, along with others, was a Woody Guthrie of literature and exposed troubles, trials and tribulations.

Steinbeck is such a great writer. I tried reading Grapes of Wrath and had to give up after the first chapter. It was just so grim and sad I couldn’t bear it. But Travels with Charley is much easier and quite funny in parts.

I am slowly working my way through The Fraud by Zadie Smith. I am not loving it but need to finish it for a book club.

Yes, it is a hard book to read, but Steinbeck captures the despair of people during this historic time. Maybe try again at a later time as it is good book but important to be in the right frame of mind.

I’m reading “We’ll Prescribe You Another Cat.” I enjoyed the first book in this series and am enjoying this one as well.

Jill, I finished the book yesterday. Yes, it was a charming book and I agree with your description. The author brilliantly characterized the different Brontë sisters. Thank you for recommending The Man in the Stone Cottage.
