The book is kind of hidden gem (at least for me). McDermid’s short chapters address a myriad of topics including her writing process, nature, and Scottish holidays, all woven together by Winter into by a story that flows easily. This is not a book for those who want a plot or those who expect a thriller (her typical writing genre).
Still working on West with Giraffes. And just started Robert Dugoni’s latest - Her Cold Justice. He is definitely one of my favorite authors. Have you ever read or listened to his The Extraordinary Life of Sam Hell? It’s a must read.
I have Harlem Rhapsody sitting atop my pile of books for Black history month reading. I’ll try to get to it soon so I can pop in on the chat.
Thanks for the recommendation, @Lloyd_R. I’ve heard a lot about The Extraordinary Life of Sam Hell by Robert Dugoni. It was on my list of books to get a one point but somehow dropped off my radar. Guess I need to bump it up!
I finished The Bookman’s Tale: A Novel of Obsession by Charlie Lovett.
The book follows an antiquarian book collector who discovered an old book and went on a journey to determine if it is a Shakespearean artifact.
It is literary mystery with a touch of romance and twists. The book captured my attention and would be an enjoyable read if you love old books and the history of book collectors in Britain’s past.
Get the Kleenex ready for your read of The Extraordinary Life of Sam Hell. By the end your emotions will have been rung out and hung out to dry. The author is very talented at this, some in our book club felt manipulated - a bit overdone perhaps.
This week I finished Theo of Golden. I enjoyed the creative plot in this one and the mostly upbeat, hopeful, vibe. The narrator for this audible presentation did a remarkable job taking on each character’s personality, I thought.
This week I’m listening to a book recommended by a fellow BookBrowser (sorry, don’t recall who exactly) because I had mentioned liking West With the Night and other Beryl Markham reads. This one is Circling the Sun by Paula McLain. Thanks, you know who you are :)![]()
I am still reading Katabasis. I am not sure I like it but I am enjoying reading it, if that makes any sense. I am having to look up words every 3 pages.
