I just started listening to Black in Blues by Imani Perry. It will take a bit for me to finish this, but so far I am interested to keep going.
I hope to pick up Silver Nitrate by Silvia Moreno-Garcia for a book club next month. I will be traveling so I’ve had to suspend my library holds, but I am going with a fully loaded Kindle. It would be nice if my turn came up on Libby for a few of the new releases I am looking forward to reading. I’ll report back next week.
In the meantime, my night time reading is a cozy mystery series Stitches in Crime…always a fun romp when I need something light. I’m just finishing # 6.
Martyr! was one of my favorite books last year. I hope you enjoy it.
This week I am reading Replaceable You by Mary Roach and listening to We Do Not Part by Han Kang. Mary Roach’s books are interesting and I enjoy her approach. I always feel like I’ve learned some obscure fact that will show up on a trivia quiz someday. The book by Han Kang explores the massacres on Jeju Island (Island of the Sea Women) in Korea. An intense but thought-provoking book.
This week I’m reading Crank by Ellen Hopkins. So far it’s great. It basically tells the story of her daughter’s addiction and how affected her and her family. It’s poetry, though, which I just think is awesome!
I cried so hard. So hard. But, I really loved the book and I read it thanks to BookBrowse.
Book sister! Yes, such a hard and cleansing cry.
I finished Buckeye by Patrick Ryan. I know it has glowing reviews, but it was not for me. I listened to The Poppy Fields on audiobook and loved it.
Now, I’m starting Death At The White Hart by Chris Chibnall. He is the creator of Broadchurch, so I’m really intrigued to read this.
I have Correspondent on my TBR for October for a book club. I’m very excited.
I have read The Sweetness of Water, Black Cake, and Broken Country. I enjoyed all of those.
This was a “start and stop” week- I tried reading about 5 different books and they did not grab my attention. Then my cousin texted me with a recommendation to read The Weyward by Emilia Hart (2023) and it’s holding my attention! For book club we’ll be discussing A Marriage at Sea nonfiction book this coming week. One of my favorites this year!
I absolutely cried at the last couple pages! I thought it was a wonderful book and it really held my attention.
I enjoyed reading The Weyward especially since it focuses on three women separated by centuries and how they endured the struggles of surviving male dominance. Hopefully you will have the same reaction.
I am reading “What we can Know” by Ian McEwan. Hard to get into but by page 100, my mindset changed to “ wow, everyone should read this”!
This is a book best read from cover to cover in as few sittings as possible to really enjoy. So many topics are covered and writing encouraged a lot of thinking along so many different topics. Definitely recommend!
Thanks very much for the feedback, @Terri_C! It’s high on my TBR, but a number of people have bailed on it so I was starting to think maybe not. Good to know it’s worth sticking with it.
I enjoyed The Pusherman and I’m now reading Madame Bovary!
I loved Black in Blues so much! I hope you enjoy the beautiful writing of Imani Perry.
