I just finished The Golden Gate by Amy Chua, and enjoyed the way she took me into 1930s and 40s California. Historical information inserted in the narrative was interesting, and not intrusive.
I’m listening to There, There by Tommy Orange. I should have read it a long time ago. The audio version has several different readers which I find always enlivens a book.
And, for an ebook I just jumped into Heretic by Catherine Nixey. It was time to bring nonfiction back into the mix.
One of my favorite recent reads! The audiobook is narrated by the author (Doris Kearns Goodwin) and when a presidential speech is referenced, the audiobook often used clips from JFK or LBJ so you hear it in their voice.
I am reading Dopamine Nation by Dr Anna Lembke, a rather frightening, eye opening look at all the things we overindulge in : cigarettes, drugs, booze, social media.
I just finished the audiobook of, The Women on Platform Two, by Laura Anthony. I really enjoyed this debut and the narrators were very good. I am just starting the ebook of, The Famine Orphans, by Patricia Falvey, that will be published May 29. So far, I am enjoying this. I will start listening to, King of Ashes, by S.A. Cosby, that will be published on June 10. I am excited to start this one, as I enjoy the books by this talented author.
Lessons in Chemistry, was a favorite read of mine. I put it off for so long because of the cover picture. As they say, never judge a book by its cover…I did…and learned a valuable lesson. I didn’t expect to like this as much as I did.
My audiobook selection from the local library are a vast collection of random topics. I finished Follow The River by James Alexander Thom, a historical fiction about the colonial American living. It was great! A story set in Virginia, settlers trying to make a home and live amongst the Native people. This particular tale centered on a raiding war party of Shawnee who kidknapped some women and children and then travelled over 500 miles NW to their village. The main character, Mary Ingles a captive decided to escape with another captive woman and together they walked for months to return to their home. It’s an unbelievable journey based on true facts completely mesmerizing with detailed accounts of the daily rigor.
I also completed Nine Perfect Strangers by Liane Moriarty. What a treat this story was on audiobook, complete with the Aussie accent. It was as funny as it was intense and all the characters memorable.
I was tired of waiting for this book to become available ( there were 130 people ahead of me!) so I broke down and downloaded it on my Kindle. I don’t mean to be overly dramatic when I say that I could not even compose words to express how this novel moved me. This book contained everything I love to find in a novel and it truly transported me into an incredible world, Hope you don’t have to wait long to read it!
