To what audience would you recommend Becoming Madam Secretary?

Janet-
I am definitely recommending this book to my bookclub. My only familiarity with Francis Perkins was from reading Hidden Power.
In this book I not only learned about her accomplishments and struggles, but also learned a lot about people and politics I must have been asleep for when it was taught in school. Dray brought to life these historic figures in a very readable style.

My bookclub loves historical fiction, especially when the topic is an overlooked woman, so this book is on the list as for this year. We range in age from 75 (who remember not being able to get a credit card without a husband’s signature!) to 28 (who think us Boomers are exaggerating when we talk about what being a working woman in the 1970s and 1980s was like). This book is going to really prompt discussions!! I can hardly wait..

I would recommend this book to anyone who loves history and to anyone that likes learning the history we don’t always know a lot about.

How fortunate your book club has an age/generation span. I bet the discussions are insightful!

Thank you! We are really lucky. We basically have three generations sitting down together once a month to discuss books (we are not related to each other; no one has to be there). I am the leader, and I try to assign books that will spark discussions. It’s so cool how much us “boomers” learn from Gen X and Millennials.

Having recently completed the book, I’d definitely recommend it to people who like to read about FDR’s presidency.
