This a braided novel, following two very different characters whose paths don't cross until well past the halfway point of the story. What did you think of this aspect of the novel? Did you like it?

I liked this book a lot! I liked going back and forth between the 2 chapters and was anxiously anticipating when their paths would cross.

I liked the author’s format of different chapters for different characters. It allowed me to focus on each individual and their experiences that led to “their next steps”. The short chapters allowed my own reflections as well.

I loved the way this novel was written with the parallel time lines of the two main characters. I also loved the short chapter styles and dividing the book into different parts…it made for an engaging read!

If the writers style and pacing is good the alternating chapters can work well. But I think it is time writers grab onto a new style - the alternating chapters are everywhere now - 6 out of 10 books use that format. I now look for books that may give an up to date prologue then slip back in time for Chapter one and move forward.

I thought it worked well for this book. Going into depth with each character at one time, only having them meet in the middle, was a good way to understand each character. Doing it any other way would have been difficult to empathize with the two.
