I’ve been in touch with Wally Lamb’s publicist. He’s sadly not interested in sitting down with us, but he would be willing to reply to a Q&A document.
So here’s where I need your help…
What questions would you like to post to this author? I’ve read his most recent, The River is Waiting, but not any of his others. Please post any questions you think I should ask him here. I’ll post his response when I get it.
Kim, I’ve not read The River is Waiting but have read summaries and reactions. My inquiry might not be well informed, but perhaps you can reframe these thoughts into meaningful questions. This story is about deep sorrow and grief. Some reviews reference Kahlil Gibran; specifically this quote - “The deeper that sorrow carves into your being, the more joy you can contain.” **What influenced Lamb to write a story about deep sorrow? How does his work with incarcerated women inspire his writing? How have some of the women demonstrated the interplay or balance of sorrow and joy?
Thanks, @NanK, that’s exactly the kind of thing I’m looking for. I would never have thought to ask those questions, and I think they’re really good ones.
