Overall, what did you think of The Vanishing Place? (No spoilers in this topic, please.)

I really enjoyed this book. The setting was interesting and the merging of the story lines at the end was somewhat of a shocker for me.

I enjoyed the book very much up until the ending. I am wondering if anyone else got as confused as I did. Obviously I need to read the last 50 pages again because the new names/name changes left me confused. The last page left me clueless. Am I alone?

I was thoroughly engaged with the book and it became a page turner. I like how the author went back and forth with the plot and frankly, I was shocked how it all tied together.

I also got confused and even re-read some parts to better understand what was going on.
I found myself unable to put this book down. I was so engaged in the story. I found the alternating timelines confusing at times. I would be riveted in one timeline, and then it would abruptly switch. Overall, I still really liked it.
I thought The Vanishing Place was a great book! It is so different from life as I know it yet engaged me immediately and made me not want to put it down. I did get confused at times and needed to reread parts of it. Overall, I found this book to be sad, but touching and warm.

I like mysteries that are a bit more fast paced than this one. I’d describe it as a slow burn mystery. I often found the multiple timelines fairly annoying. I know that it’s done to supposedly build up tension, but I found it made the story very choppy. I don’t much enjoy stories that include some of the themes of this book, (not mentioned here in case they are spoilers). The other thing I didn’t like was the author making you think a character was dead and then they’re not.
That’s a writing ploy I don’t like. Doing it occasionally I understand, but over and over is unacceptable. Overall a 3 star book for me.
I found the story very engaging and difficult to put down (but I had to as life happens.) The off the grid setting was interesting but oh so lonely, melancholy. The switching time periods didn’t bother me, but I had to envision the main characters at different ages and consider their actions as age-related.
The Vanishing Place is a suspenseful story that kept me engaged to the end. I usually don’t read thrillers because they can be dark, and this story had some very dark parts, but I wanted to learn more about the characters and how the story would be resolved. Most of the setting was in the brush in New Zealand, which is a beautiful yet harsh environment. This story is perfect for anyone who likes riveting thrillers.
I thought the book was very good. Took me just a bit to get into it but once I did, I read it in 2 days. Good thriller, good twists and good characters. I
Overall, I did enjoy the read. Travelling between two timelines kept me engaged. However, the time spent in each story was often too short. It made the flow quite choppy and was often frustrating
I found the introduction of yet another timeline to be confusing and distracting from the story..It would have been more cohesive if these details had somehow been revealed during the 2025 time frame.
My only problem with the book was that I found myself so confused at the end that I had to read the last couple of chapters three times before understanding Effie’s family history, who was who, and that “Dad” and “Cameron” were one and the same. I wonder if other readers had the same problem or if it was just me.

Yeah, I had quite the “Wait…what!?!” moment at the end. I had to make myself a little family tree after I was done to figure out the relationships.

The Vanishing Place hooked me right from the beginning. I enjoyed the two timelines which allowed me greater insight into the characters by understanding their backstories. I found fascinating the description of life and the struggles of surviving in the bush.
I read the book straight through and loved it, although the end took some thought. I would definitely recommend the book.
I really enjoyed the book, although it was a bit confusing at times. It was a good thriller with many twists and strong characters.
I guess I’m the lone wolf here, but I could not get into this book at all. I tried so hard, but I couldn’t engage with the characters and found the story very repetitive. After about 100 pages I put the book down unfortunately.
Sometimes this happens. I had a similar experience with a popular title. And that’s okay.

Like so many others on here, I enjoyed the book but did get confused with the introduction of new characters toward the end of the book. I’m glad that I’m not the only one who had some trouble figuring out how these different characters fit in. I also should probably reread the last 50 pages or so.
The story though had the elements of an intriguing mystery. I enjoyed the main characters and the setting was unique and mysterious.
