Sorry, I sgree with most of the comments. I did not like this book. I thought Dulcie was self centered and blaming her cousin for Billy’s disappearance was unfair. Why didn’t she watch him?!? I was looking forward to reading this as I have many Greek friends who speak of the beauty of the islands and the wonderful people. I wanted to recommend this book to them, but I can’t. I thought , as Leslie said, the characters were ‘a superficial mess”
I had trouble connecting with the characters and caring enough about them. Billy was my favorite character and he was only in a few pages of the book.
Overall, I thought the book was contrived and unbelievable.
I enjoyed the book. It came at a time when i was recovering from surgery and it was just what I needed to read. It was a bit like soap opera and I was okay with that.
I didn’t care for the book at all. I think too many topics were squashed together to get to a good ending. In addition, to me there was such disconnection, as if parts were written by someone else. Finally, and I apologize, I just didn’t like the characters, but they didn’t like each other either. I believe if the family had cared more about each other the story would have had more interest
I found the book to be tiresome. There was too much repetition. The story could have been told in a much shorter form. At times it was downright boring. But I am glad I was given the chance to read it. I actually found the characters to be memorable.
I was surprised it was more of a “Love Novel”. I typically do not gravitate to this type of story. I thought there was too much crying.
Didn’t love it, didn’t hate it. Too much of a soap opera feel. I did enjoy the history of 1923 in Corfu, and the descriptions of the scenery of the island.
I kept reading to find out if Billy’s story would be resolved.
I started out loving it, but it started to lose me the last 100 pages or so. I like the author’s writing and the complex family relationships, but the storyline just got too crazy for me.
