Frozen River was easily shared with my fellow readers. The depiction of life in the frontier through the eyes of women made me realize that maybe we have not come so far. It also highlighted the beauty of a husband that is loving and supportive.
I am not usually a big fan of historical fiction but this book was phenomenal. I had never heard of Martha Ballard and thought she was incredible- so strong and brave but with such a human side. The description of life then was so interesting and identifiable.
I loved this book, particularly about the amazing contributions of women in our history
Our book club had a fabulous discussion about this book. First of all, we live in Maine and identify with the book’s setting. We are also older and thoroughly enjoy a female main character, who in spite of social norms, becomes all that she can be. The author’s research about the real Martha Ballad, makes this book come alive. There are so many well-developed characters, whose lives parallel today’s circumstances and human responses, that we became involved in their lives.
Your book discussion questions were excellent. We appreciated page numbers, where the questions were very specific. The variety of types of questions engaged everyone. Thanks!
