I have two books which I believe will help relief some of today’s stress: Olivetti by Allie Millington and Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt. Both are enjoyable reads.
I loved Eleanor Oliphant is doing fine. After reading this book I just wanted to hug Eleanor.
I loved An Uncommon Reader!!!
Like many, I loved Remarkably Bright Creatures. For an out of this world escape, I also enjoyed Andy Weir’s Project Hail Mary and The Martian as well as Mary Robinette Kowal’s The Lady Astronaut series (even non-sci-fi lovers might like these reads). For entertaining reads I also turn to several tried and true series like Richard Osman’s Thursday Murder Club series, Deanna Raybourn’s Veronica Speedwell series, Benjamin Stevenson’s Ernest Cunningham series and for total wackiness and snort-laughing Jana deLeon’s Miss Fortune series. The thing all these series have in common are characters I have grown to love and the stories are guaranteed to make me smile.
I went through my list and here are three:
A Man Called Ove, by Fredrick Backman
Briar House, by Kate Quinn
West With Giraffes, by Lynda Rutledge
This is an oldie but it immediately came to mind…A Spot of Bother by Mark Haddon. 2007. Mark you might remember as the author of The curious incident of the dog in the nighttime.
Thank you for mentioning the book, Sipsworth. That is a book I have heard nothing about, so it is going on my TBR list.
I too very much enjoyed Remarkably Bright Creatures and have recommended it to ever so many other readers. Although there were some portions in The Love Elixir of Augusta Stern that were not particularly light, I would add this title to a list of uplifting favorites.
I keep hearing good things about West with Giraffes. I imagine it’s high time I added it to my TBR list!
My favorite light reading genre is detective stories. The Flavia Deluce series is really good especially on audio. Can’t wait til the new installment comes out!
