Most of the characters depicted in A Crown of Stars were based on real people. Had you heard of any of them previously?

I had not heard of the people in the novel prior to reading the book. Once I was finished with the book I spent some glorious hours looking up many of the people mentioned in the book.

I had not heard of most of the character before.

No, but I will spend some time researching!!!

I had not heard of the people in the novel but now inspired to explore their lives and contributions.

I only knew of the Vanderbilt name. I am not familiar with stars from the silent movie age. I have enjoyed watching The Gilded Age and learning more about that time period.

No, I had not heard of the people in the story. After reading the book, I Googled Rita and enjoyed reading more about her and her family.

I had not. I did not even realize it was based on true people until the end of the book

I knew a Vanderbilt was a passenger on the Lusitania, but I wasn’t familiar with any of the other names.

I didn’t either! I had heard of some of the big names (Vanderbilt, astor) but I thought the author was just name dropping! Imagine my surprise to find out Rita was a real person!

No, never. I had to follow up with a little google searching! Interesting ladies indeed.

I have been a big fan of the show The Gilded Age and I have read books about this period, so I knew several of the background characters. But I did not know about these sisters. So happy to have this new knowledge, it hit the sweet spot for me in historical fiction. Learning new things and bringing lost to the past women to the forefront. Yippee!

I did not know details or names of passengers prior to reading this book. A couple of the famous-family surnames rang a bell, of course, but that was all.

I was not only unfamiliar with the read characters but knew very little about the Lusitania tragedy at all, except the name of the ship. It was interesting to hear about people who actually experienced it. And made me want to learn more about this historical event and it’s victims.

while i was reading this I thought of the gilded age. That is what made me think it was a work of fiction - in the show the niece could not walk across the street without an escort and these parents are letting their 2 daughters live on their own w/o a chaperone Good for these parents

I only knew of Vanderbilt and Astor as well. I found the characters so interesting and had to search online for more information.

No, I hadn’t heard of the characters before, but I love when something I read introduces me to new people and topics which I can explore.

I knew of a few, mostly from having previously read Erik Larsen’s Dead Wake about the same subject . It’s been a few years since I read it, however, so many of the details I had forgotten. I think it may be a good time to reread it and compare.

The only character I had heard of prior to the book is Mr. Vanderbilt. I had recently watched The Gilded Age which I absolutely loved!!

I had only heard of the “big name” people so I did some research after finishing the book. I found a lot of info and it enhanced my enjoyment of the book.
