In writing Before Dorothy, the author enjoyed weaving in a number of “Easter eggs” as references to The Wizard of Oz. Which did you spot?

I enjoyed the Easter eggs in this book.

I think I spotted all, if not, most. I was confused when they mentioned the silver slippers, till I read authors note on this. I found that tidbit of info interesting.

As everyone has already pointed out there were many clues to characters and objects in the Wizard of Oz. I loved the way the author set these up as it kind of gave a backstory to the Wizard of Oz. You were able to envision how these characters came to be in the Wizard. This book was much more realistic in that Dorothy dreamed most of this in a fever of sickness instead of being transported in a tornado. I was interested to see how this would all be handled.

It must have been fun for Gaynor to weave in so many iconic references and images from the original Wizard of Oz book and the eternally famous film. I smiled every time one arrived on the page.

I just loved that! It made me smile every time one popped up. It was very clever to remind by these touch points. I also learned a lot from the author’s notes. Never would’ve known that the original shoes were silver!

There so many 'Easter eggs" throughout the book. I enjoyed it when I found the references to the original book.

I think I found most/all. I enjoyed spotting them as they appeared, made me want to read the original Wizard of Oz. I’d also be interested in comparing the book to the movie version.
