I love books and I’m constantly buying them but I only keep the books I would want to reread. I probably have 200 or so books, due to limited space in my home. I tend to donate or pass on books I don’t want to keep.
I agree with Frank’s habit of saving the books he read. While I don’t save every book I read I do save the ones I hope to read again and the ones that have special memories for me of what I was doing at the time I was reading them. The others I donate to our local library. At present, I have little over 500 books in my own library. It’s not home to me unless I have books around me.
I also read constantly and have a large library. When I moved several years ago I had 50 boxes of books that moved with me. I don’t keep every book, but I do keep books that “would be good book club books” as I run 3 book groups. I also keep all the books from favorite authors and occasionally re-read a whole series in order just for fun.I currently have approximately 900 books on shelves in my library (yes, I have a whole room that is only my library). And, yes, I also use my public library.
Kim, you made me laugh outloud! I read this to my husband who is a keeper of things he “might need” And we have no one to leave them to. Not even a cat!
I had to downsize recently to move to a smaller house - getting rid of books was probably the most difficult to down size. I still have about 200 books on my bookcases and 500 books on my kindle
I think it is sort of selfish to keep so many books. I give mine to the library when I am done or to a friend. There are so many books I still haven’t read that I don’t reread a book. If I needed to I could get one from the library.
I’ve never counted the books in my library, but I have shelves and shelves of them. I rarely keep a book after I’ve read it, unless it’s been especially meaningful or has recipes, health information, or something of that nature that I’d want to refer back to.
