Do you think Eunice and Polly influenced each other’s lives? Do you think they learned anything from one another? How did their relationship change over the course of the book? What factors led to this transformation?
I think they learned to trust and respect each other.
They definitely did… the biggest case of this is when they discussed their situations. Both had a hill to climb to get to where they are.. I think they both had to step back and see the different aspects of life that challenged them.
Yes, once they were open to understanding and listening to one another, their relationship changed. They had a common goal and achieved it.
Eunice and Polly realized that they were more alike than different. While their struggles were different, and came at different points in their lives, they had the common hurdles of being women in male-dominated fields and of achieving success despite many naysayers.
I think they reminded each other not to make conclusions about a person’s character or intentions without taking the time to know that person and the reasons behind the decisions she makes. I liked how their interactions started off so intensely and then evolved during the novel.
They arrived at a place of mutual trust and respect. It was hard-earned on both sides.
