I take notes for book club books. I use Pages on my iPad. I read fast and I read a lot. If I read the book club book too soon I often forget what the book is about!! Notes are very helpful! Getting into the habit of reading my book club books right before the club starts, but still make notes!
I am a book club facilitator so I always take notes when I’m reading. If a question comes to mind I write it down immediately so I can use it in the discussion. If there are 2 narrators I use pens with different color ink to quickly know who is narrating the chapter. I stick postits in the book to locate paragraphs I want to quote. If just reading for pleasure I do not take notes.
Gosh, this is another question that is hard to answer because it’s a case by case basis. I will be honest when it comes to nonfiction books I do tend to take notes in a completely separate notebook. I do not annotate any of my books nor do I highlight or writes in any of my books that is a personal preference of mine. But when I see books that every page has you know multiple paragraphs and sometimes small essays, I am fascinated in the sense that it must take them a whole year to finish certain books and don’t get me wrong. I am all for making sure that each and every word goes into your ear and then your brain and then your soul so you cannot only devour the words that the author has put on the paper, but it can shape and mold your thought process into something you may not have thought or felt before. But, at the same time, I’m a busy girl. I got things to do and there’s a lot of books to read out there, so my notes are usually pretty short and minimal, and not like an entire entirely separate book.
