I do see it as a love story - love between mothers and daughters, love between women and their female ancestors, love between clans. The love affairs between the characters and their ‘men’ were important but didn’t have the same impact on me as the bonds between the female family members.
I didn’t see elements of traditional romance reflected in the book, but there was love depicted between generations, specifically between mothers and daughters. The love in these relationships was deep and caring at times, but with an undercurrent of expectations, trauma and control.

I don’t view Cursed Daughters are a romantic love story but, rather, a story about love of family and love of self. It’s a story about finding true love without being bound by expectations based on one’s history and/or culture, and breaking free from superstitions, magical thinking, & obligation arising out of others’ sorrow to find real happiness.
