Awwwwww, thanks, Holly. I promise, there will never be an exam.
You’ve mentioned a couple of times that you bike. Is that still your #1 form of recreation? What else do you do for fun when you’re not writing or traveling?
Some authors writing fiction have an extensive research team and/or extensively tap into experts while other authors prefer to do all their own research. What approach do you tend to take when writing?
I haven’t read The Flight Attendant (yet), but noticed it was made into a limited series on HBO. Can you say a little bit about your involvement with the series with regard to helping the production company stay true to the story and also whether you had any input into which actors or actresses were selected for the key roles.
I want to thank you for participating in the Book Browse discussion. I’ve really enjoyed reading your reply to all of the questions. I confess that I’ve not read any of your books only because my TBR list so long. But, this BB discussion has prompted me to re-order my list and add your books to the top of my list. I might have missed comments on The Red Lotus, but that is the book I’ll be reading first, hopefully in early May. Thank you too for the book guide discussion questions.
I loved the book!! Although I was thrown off by the title “mistress” I read all the reviews. Since I’ve spent over 75 summers in Vermont on Button Bay’ I was especially delighted to see Vergennes and Panton mentioned in the book.
Marsh was one of your Panton characters. There are Marshes living down the road. Ancestors? I also love that you “ write” Your books as you ride your bike. I’m sure I’ve passed you as I travel back and forth on local roads never knowing I was passing a book in working progress. Keep those books coming!
Yes, I still bike between 3,300 and 3,700 miles a season. But I also spend at least an hour a day in the woods or fields with my beloved dog, Jesse, read about 60 books a year, see a dozen or so movies a year in theaters, and watch a lot of TV.
I will be on Cyprus in June for a wedding.
I do all my own research. All of it. When I’m interviewing an expert, I never know where the conversation will go, and I want to be present to ask unexpected follow-up questions. I was a newspaper columnist for decades and a magazine journalist for years. I enjoy this part of the work immensely.
All success to that show belongs to show runner Steve Yockey, the brilliant actor Kaley Cuoco, and the teams at Warner and Max. My involvement season one was enjoying bagels from craft services and trying to stay out of the way when I was on set. And because season two was filmed in 2021, the Covid protocols were so intense I was not even on set.
Goodness, I thank you. And there will never be an exam on my books – at least given by me.
Thank YOU, MaryJane. Look for my next novel, THE AMATEUR, in August 2026. It’s my first courtroom drama since MIDWIVES.
Alright everyone, thank you for participating, and a huge thank you to @Chris_B for all of your gracious engagement! We’re closing this thread and will post a write up under our Author Interviews as well.
